The Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare issued a notice last weekend.
In view of the spread of the novel coronavirus, which is making it increasingly difficult to visit medical institutions,
it set out, as a temporary and special measure, “care by telephone or information and communication devices starting from the first visit.”
In ophthalmology, most exams are done with a microscope, so I think there is not much that online consultation can do.
Of course, we also cannot carry out the various eye tests, such as vision tests (which require corrected vision testing with lenses), eye pressure tests, and visual field tests.
Contact lens prescriptions are also not possible.
Even so, we have prepared to respond as far as possible so that we can reduce your worries about your eyes. In many cases, we will probably ask you to come in for an in-person exam.
* Because of administrative procedures and other reasons, please allow us to offer this during clinic hours only.
Today (April 17, 2020), we were already able to carry out an online first visit for one person.
Please feel free to contact us. Thank you.
