Just after I went to Boston in 2007, I was truly astonished to see the just-released iPhone as a present at a Christmas party at work. In the 10-plus years since, the world has become one that cannot function without smartphones.
Compared with 10 years ago, most people probably spend much more of the day looking at a smartphone screen (= looking at near objects).

Around the lens inside the eye is a muscle (the ciliary muscle); when looking at near objects, the ciliary muscle works to make the lens bulge and bring things into focus (accommodation).
With aging, the lens becomes hard and accommodative power declines (presbyopia)。
Forcing the eyes to look at near objects is one cause of eye strain.
[Eye pain, blurring, glare, redness, pain behind the eyes, stiff shoulders, headache, nausea, etc.]
Together with “VDT syndrome” from computer use, we also hear the term “smartphone presbyopia” regardless of age.
Long smartphone use can also leave the eyes turned inward and unable to return.
When we opened Takeru Eye Clinic, we introduced an accommodation analyzer (Accommoref).
In about 2 minutes of testing time for both eyes, we assess the effect on the ciliary muscle during accommodation, show it as a graph, and present it on the monitor in the examination room.
Based on the results, we prescribe eye drops.
(Improving lifestyle also seems important.)
One month after opening, many people have already obtained unexpected benefits, which surprises me.
Besides accommodation, causes of eye strain include:
• Refractive error (adjusting glasses and contact lenses)
• Phoria (balance of the positions of the two eyes)
• Convergence / divergence (movement of both eyes when looking at near objects)
• Dry eye etc.
are cited.
Multifocal contact lenses/and low-addition contact lenses
(lenses with a distance power and a near power in a single contact lens)
have also produced a certain level of effect.
We provide care in cooperation with our full-timeorthoptists.
Thank you for your continued support.
* Blue-light-blocking is not particularly necessary.
