We Do Not Issue Contact Lens Prescriptions Alone

Takeru Eye Clinic does not have a contact lens shop on site.

After the examination and consultation, first-time wearers receive instruction on wearing lenses, and we then dispense the contact lenses at the clinic.

The doctor and certified orthoptists take responsibility for explaining how to handle them.

We carry a minimal number of manufacturers, chosen to meet patients’ wishes as widely as possible.

  • • Slept with contact lenses in
  • • Bathed or showered with contact lenses in
  • • Swam with contact lenses in
  • • Used a lens case for a long time and did not notice that microorganisms had grown in it
  • • Shared colored contact lenses with friends
  • • Bought colored contact lenses at a mass retailer (there are said to be about 1,000 colored contact lens manufacturers)

In all of the above, there is a risk of corneal infection:

The cornea can become cloudy and white, and this can lead to blindness.

Many times in my career as an ophthalmologist, I have thought that this would not have happened if the person had used contact lenses safely.

It can be seen as bad luck, but we do not want to leave something as important as our eyes to luck.

Contact lenses are classified as highly controlled medical devices, the same category as cardiac pacemakers.
I regard them as something to be handled with great care.

Also, behind the cornea there are the important “corneal endothelial cells.”

When contact lens wearing time is extremely long, these cells may have decreased.
This is because enough oxygen has not reached the cornea over a long period.

* In contact lens care, we always show you a photo of your corneal endothelial cells.

Most contact lens wearers are nearsighted.

“High myopia” of -6.0 D or more: especially after age 40, the risk of glaucoma and retinal disease also rises.

Complications of myopia

In ophthalmology we always examine the fundus (optic nerve and retina) to check for abnormalities at the back of the eye.

If an abnormality is suspected, we may take time to carry out detailed tests.

Unexpectedly, we often find diseases at the back of the eye.

What causes “gritty eyes, redness, pain, and blurred vision”?

✔ When we turn the eyelid over, we may find severe allergic conjunctivitis caused by contact lenses.

✔ There may be a scratch on the cornea.

✔ It may be the stage just before a corneal infection develops.

✔ There may be inflammation inside the eye (iritis / uveitis).

Contact lens care:

A single ophthalmology specialist observes the condition of your eyes in detail before you start using lenses.

We have also set up an environment where you can visit us at any time if anything seems wrong while you are using them.
