1 in 50 children has “amblyopia”: I think that is a very large number.
When one eye sees well, it covers for the other eye, so you may not notice that vision has not developed (anisometropic amblyopia).
There was a very good article:
[Dangerous!] It could have been cured if treated early… Beware of the “missed amblyopia in children, as many as 1 in 50!”
From age 3 until entering elementary school,if strong hyperopia, astigmatism, or anisometropia is found and training (treatment) is started and continued, in most cases the child can be brought to a problem-free state by the time of entering elementary school.
It is also possible to start from elementary school age, but it seems that regular visits can become difficult.
At Takeru Eye Clinic, we have set up an environment in which we can provide high-quality care in pediatric ophthalmology as well.
Our full-timeorthoptistscarry out the various tests.
We want to work hard for the eye health of children.
Thank you for your continued support.

From the same article:
○ Why many parents miss amblyopia in children
Missed case 1: not knowing that there is a limit to visual development, and leaving it alone
Missed case 2: passing through the “3-year-old health checkup”
○ What should parents do now so that it is not too late?
[When to see an eye doctor]
- The eyes look odd
- The child gets abnormally close to the TV or squints when watching it
- The child strongly dislikes having one eye covered with a hand
- The eyes shake
- The child tilts the head or looks out of the corner of the eye
- It looks like strabismus
- The center of the black of the eye looks white
Strabismus can sometimes be noticed as a difference in eye direction in photos. It is also good to take photos of your child with a smartphone and observe them.
○ Carry out the home vision test for the 3-year-old checkup properly
How to use the “Landolt ring” sent before the checkup.
○ If you are told “detailed examination needed,” be sure to see an eye doctor
If you practice testing vision one eye at a time at home, I think the test at the eye clinic will also go smoothly.
