The Meaning of Getting Contact Lenses at an Eye Clinic

Contact lenses, which are placed directly on your precious eyes, are highly controlled medical devices, classified in the same category as heart pacemakers.

At Takeru Eye Clinic, we put eye health first, and after an examination we dispense contact lenses in the clinic.

Besides checking whether you can wear contact lenses (evaluating the corneal epithelium and conjunctiva), we perform the following examinations.

Sometimes diseases that had not been noticed before are found.

Corneal endothelial cell count (the posterior surface of the cornea)

“Maintaining corneal transparency” / “cells that do not regenerate”

Contact lens wear can reduce the number of corneal endothelial cells.

This is a test with the far future in mind.

We show you a photo of your own corneal endothelial cells and explain it.

Fundus examination (non-mydriatic: an examination without dilating the pupil)

Having “high myopia” is equivalent to a higher risk factor for glaucoma.

After observing the fundus (optic nerve), if needed we perform an evaluation of the optic nerve on the spot with optical coherence tomography (OCT). About glaucoma care

“Glaucoma” covers a very wide range of conditions: from nearly normal, to suspected glaucoma, to severe and end-stage glaucoma.

With the development of ophthalmic care and advances in drugs, I think that most glaucoma found early is becoming a disease not to be feared.

Presence of peripheral retinal degeneration and retinal tears, etc.

Retinal diseases such as diabetic retinopathy and epiretinal membrane have also been found.

Choosing appropriate contact lenses

Contact lenses for astigmatism can sometimes be a cause of eye strain.

According to each person’s living situation, we consider the balance between near and far vision.

When needed, we prescribe toric lenses / low-addition lenses / multifocal lenses.

And corneal infection is a very frightening contact lens complication.

Please enjoy your contact lenses safely and carefully, and see an eye doctor if you feel anything unusual, however slight.
