The Isa Family House / Mr. Isasaka from Sazae-san

Fine Garden Takatori has, on the first floor, the drugstore Cocokara Fine and Nihon Chozai Pharmacy, and the second floor is a two-story medical building made up of four medical facilities:

Takatori Ladies Clinic,Ogami Internal Medicine Clinic,Ota Orthopedic Clinic(with an attached rehabilitation facility), and Takeru Eye Clinic.

Directly across the street is an old house that stands out.

Part of the main building is estimated to have been built around the end of the Edo period.
The tatami-room section was added in 1903 (Meiji 36).

It is a very valuable traditional merchant house, designated a nationally registered cultural property in 2015.

The Takatori Shopping Street, located in a lively shopping street that runs from Nishijin to Fujisaki, is said to have long prospered at the crossing of the Karatsu Kaido and Nagasaki Kaido roads.

“Mr. Isasaka,” who appears next door to the Isono family in Sazae-san, is said to derive from the Isa family.

At that time there were many merchant houses, and I was told it was a name common in the neighborhood of the home of the author, Machiko Hasegawa.

I also heard that the shopping street from Nishijin to Fujisaki mentioned above is a gentle slope you can only just notice when riding a bicycle. From that, it seems, the characters’ names came to include “saka” (slope).
