It has been a week since we opened. Patients are already coming from many different areas. Everyone on the team is getting used to the electronic medical record system and the various medical devices, and the flow from reception to testing, examination, and payment now runs smoothly. Thank you to everyone who has supported us.
It is estimated that 1 in 20 people aged 40 or older has glaucoma (the Tajimi Study). At my previous workplace, many patients were young people and families, and I found a considerable number of undiagnosed glaucoma patients, which brought this home to me. Glaucoma causes no symptoms until it is fairly advanced. Eye drops have advanced remarkably in recent years, and we are now in an era when early detection can make it possible to keep visual function for life.
For the opening of the clinic in the Takatori shopping street in Sawara Ward, we were able to introduce the latest, high-quality equipment.
The following tests are available as needed. Except for the slit lamp, the tests are performed by certified orthoptists (ORT), a national qualification, and all results are shown on a monitor and explained to you.
○ Slit lamp microscope
: Fundus examination (judging enlarged optic disc cupping and retinal nerve fiber bundle defects, among others), eye pressure measurement with a Goldmann applanation tonometer, gonioscopy, and more
○ Optical coherence tomography and OCT angiography (OCT / OCT Angiography)
: Measures the thickness of the nerve fibers and analyzes the images by comparing them with the normal-eye database built into the PC. Also analyzes blood flow around the optic nerve.
○ Static perimetry (Humphrey® Field Analyzer)
: At first we mainly use it for screening. We explain the accumulated results using a progression analysis graph. The HFA3 840 we use can now complete a measurement in as little as about 2 minutes per eye.
○ Kinetic perimetry (Goldmann perimeter; GP)
: Used for patients who need a wide-range visual field test, those for whom a Humphrey test is difficult, and those whose glaucoma has progressed significantly.
* Visual field tests can sometimes discover diseases of the optic nerve and brain, not just the eye.
