At our clinic, we provide MiSight® 1 day as the “Pediatric Myopia Control Continuing Management Program,” a self-pay program (since February 2026). Costs and the flow are summarized onthe comprehensive comparison page of pediatric myopia treatments.
The payment method has been updated to an annual management fee (once a year) and lens cost (purchased each time, every 3 months). For those already under contract, we are explaining the switch individually at your visit.
Pediatric Myopia Control Continuing Management Program
A continuing management program using MiSight® 1 day and Ryjusea® Mini ophthalmic solution, with an annual management fee and pay-per-visit lens cost.
Axial length is very important to keep recording.

The following keeps earlier descriptions.
“My vision test results got worse.” “My prescription gets stronger every time I get new glasses.”
Myopia was once considered simply an “out-of-focus state” that glasses could correct.
Today, however, medicine regards myopia as a progressive condition that advances when “the depth of the eyeball (axial length) grows too long,”
and raises the future risk of retinal detachment and visual impairment.

When I began preparing the clinic’s opening in 2017, I found that the field of myopia in ophthalmology had advanced a great deal.
Having worked in immunology for many years, I knew little about ocular optics.
Regarding children’s myopia, we have continued to describe and explain it on our website since opening in 2018.
To update what I had long believed and to understand the new findings:
What I want to emphasize is that “we need to reset our conventional wisdom about myopia.”
Ophthalmic care has evolved greatly with the times.
If we stay with the old common sense of “when vision drops, just adjust the prescription,”
it becomes hard to understand why treatment to slow myopia progression is necessary and how important it is.
2025 was positioned as the “first year of myopia progression control,” with new international treatment standards presented.
A new era has arrived that the earlier way of thinking can no longer capture.
Our clinic has also decided to introduce the first soft contact lens for myopia control approved in Japan, “MiSight® 1 day.”
It is a treatment with more than five years of clinical experience in the United States and other developed countries, whose high safety and lasting effect have been proven worldwide.
MiSight® 1 day is scheduled to start in February 2026; the price and care structure are not yet decided.
We will update as soon as they are decided.
* Two ophthalmology specialists at our clinic have obtained the MiSight® 1 day prescribing facility certificate (CooperVision Japan).
Preventing future eye disease by slowing axial length elongation

The overriding aim of modern pediatric myopia management is not mere refractive correction but how to suppress “elongation of the eyeball,” the root cause of myopia.
With its unique optical design described later, MiSight® 1 day can keep sending the eye a “stop-growing signal” while securing good vision.
In a 3-year international clinical trial, it slowed myopia progression by 59% and axial length elongation by 52%. In axial length, the elongation was 0.30 mm with MiSight compared with 0.62 mm with ordinary daily disposable soft contact lenses.¹ In recent myopia research, the mainstream is to compare effect by “how many mm the eye grew” rather than by percentage, because percentages change greatly depending on how fast the eye was progressing to begin with.⁸
Evidence-based mechanism of myopia control and clinical results

1. The “peripheral defocus” theory and the unique lens design
Why does myopia progress so easily? One major reason is thought to be related to “focus shift” in the peripheral retina.
When vision is corrected with ordinary glasses or contact lenses, the center of the retina is in focus, but in the periphery the focus falls behind the retina (hyperopic defocus).
It has become clear that this state acts as a mistaken signal (a progression signal) telling the eye to “grow further back,” lengthening the axial length and making myopia progress further.
To address this problem, MiSight® 1 day adopts a “dual-focus design.”
- Correction zone: focuses on the center of the retina and secures clear vision.
- Treatment zone: deliberately focuses in front of the retina, sending the eye astop signal that it need not grow any more.

2. Sustained effect and safety shown by clinical data
The effect of MiSight® 1 day is supported by long-term clinical trials.
- Sustained long-term control: a high control effect over 3 years, 1 and it has been confirmed that the effect is maintained even with 6 years of long-term wear.2。
- No rebound phenomenon: “Rebound,” in which progression accelerates after stopping treatment, has also been examined; no sudden progression was seen after stopping, and it has been reported that the control effect gained during treatment is maintained.3。
- Safety in children: It is a clean daily disposable type, and no serious corneal infection was reported in the 6-year trial period.4。
Many people may worry that contact lenses are too early for elementary school children. In a 6-year overseas report, 57% of children said wearing was “easy” after 1 week and 85% after 1 month. At our clinic, orthoptists support this first month.

The lens works only while it is worn. While it is off, the eye takes it as “still free to grow.” For MiSight, the guideline after getting used to it is at least 10 hours a day and at least 6 days a week.

3. Systematic comparison of myopia control treatments in Japan
Currently, there are mainly three evidence-based major treatments available in Japan.1, 2, 7。
| Treatment | MiSight® 1 day | Orthokeratology | Low-dose atropine eye drops |
| Category | Soft contact lens | Hard contact lens | Eye drops |
| Time of use | Daytime (10 hours or more) | At bedtime | Once a day (before bed) |
| Vision correction | Corrected while wearing | Corrects daytime uncorrected vision | No corrective effect |
| Main features | Hygienic and also excellent in safety 4, 7 | Spend the day without glasses or lenses | Can be combined with other treatments |
Summary: looking ahead to lifelong eye health
MiSight® 1 day does not completely “cure” myopia.
It is a very promising option for reducing the future risk of visual impairment.
Going one step beyond the old common sense of “just adjusting the prescription,” it has become a new way of management to protect children’s eye health for life.
To draw out the greatest effect, it is essential to follow the recommended wearing time and to have regular examinations by an ophthalmology specialist.
The payment method has been updated to an annual management fee (once a year) and lens cost (purchased each time, every 3 months). For those already under contract, we are explaining the switch individually at your visit.

Do you have myopia?
Accurate vision testing by an orthoptist and axial length measurement are very important.
